Final Grades

Final grades came out today:
Well, this is it folks! This is what I've been working so hard for...

SHA-BAM!!!
4.0 BABY! excuse my bragging, but it had to be done! I'm SO excited!!!

However, here's my dose of humble medicine.

I wasn't the best student in the first couple years of school.  I struggled with college and I really didn't have the desire to be there.  It wasn't until the semester or two before I started my major that I had a change of heart and my grades that semester dramatically improved! I went from an average 2.3 GPA in one semester to a 3.9 GPA the next.  That helped set me on the right track.

When I got into my program, I realized how much easier it was to enjoy school when I actually liked what I was studying. duh! who would have thought! My grades never really dipped below a B (I'll admit, I had one B-).  As I got closer to graduation, I realized that I wanted to go get my masters.  I looked up graduate school requirements and... to my big surprise (not really)... there was a GPA requirement. At least an overall GPA of a 3.0 within the last 60 credit hours.  I knew I had to work my tail off in order to graduate above that 3.0... too bad I realized it on my LAST semester! I was at a 2.96. yikes, I know! So, here's to making it above a 3.0!!!!! (barely, but hey... it totally counts)!

Graduation 2013

Oh, the Places You'll Go!
by Dr. Seuss

Congratulations!
Today is your day.
You're off to Great Places!
You're off and away!

You have brains in your head.

You have feet in your shoes
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.
You're on your own.  And you know what you know.
And YOU are the guy who'll decide where to go.

(Graduation 2013, Weber State University)
April 26, 2013
(12:30-2:00)

The theme for graduation was "Oh, the Places You'll Go" by Dr. Seuss.  I have had a lot of time to reflect back on my experience at Weber State University as a Child and Family Studies graduate.  I have done a lot of growing as an individual and as a professional Family Life Educator.  There are a few things that have really made an impact on my life within the past 4 years.  Here's just a few:

1. My experience within the Child and Family Studies major.  My time in this program has had a lot of ups and downs...laughter and tears...joys and disappointments. As each semester passed by, I found myself in situations that made me stretch in ways that I never thought possible.  I learned what I was really capable of doing and becoming as a professional.  I spent many, many, many, hours in the David O. McKay Education Building studying, working with students, doing group presentations, talking with professors, attending lectures, and..well let's face it..the Ed. building has the best couches to sleep on.  (Some days were longer than others).

2. Fellow Students.  If someone were to ask me if I thought I would make life-long friends through my experience at Weber State, I probably would have answered "no".  Oh, how wrong I am! These students have become great friends!  Every single one of these students have become best friends with each other.  Can anyone ask for anything more? Going to school every day with your best friends makes school so much fun and exciting! Thanks to these awesome people!!!

3. My professors.  As I got further into my major, I began to realize that the professors in the Child and Family Studies department are amazing! They are willing to stop whatever they are doing to help their students, especially Dr. Merrill.  I have never worked SO hard in a class before than her's.  Her class is not easy, but I have learned so much! She definitely makes you work for your grade. Dr. Merrill has been such a great mentor to me! I appreciate everything that she has taught me and made me learn for myself.  I will miss her greatly!

Dr. Chloe Merrill (Associate Dean)

4. Not to mention my family.  I can't even count how many times I have lost my temper or cried on the drop of a hat because of stress from school.  They have supported me through the thick and thin. How grateful I am for their support! My parents have sacrificed so much for me.  They have supported me throughout my college career, by paying every dime of my tuition.  What a great blessing!  I can't even begin to express my gratitude towards my parents!!!
Thanks mom & dad!
